The course aims to provide an introduction and basic preparation for those students that have a desire to test their artistic qualities.
The course is specially designed for people who are facing the visual arts, drawing and painting for the first time. The course syllabus is divided into two modules, the first module is oriented to the techniques and rules of graphic design (drawing), while the second module deals in greater depth the theory and practice of color. Although complementary, the two modules can be attended separately. To follow the single module of painting, it is necessary that the student already has basic knowledge of drawing.

This course will enable you to study the history of Italian Design and learn about the
influence of Italian design in daily life.
Program:

  • The first decades of the 20th century: How and why the design had its beginnings in Italy; Furniture among artisans and industry; Futurism as freedom of expression.

  • The 30s and the 40s: Between rationalism and autonomy - from Terragni to Ferragamo; Changes in style of a nation living under a fascist regime.

  • The 50s: Italian design is born - awards and recognition.

  • The 60s: Plastic - the exuberance of forms and colours.

  • The 70s: Great recognition for aesthetics and technology.

  • The 80s: Post-modern - contemporary classical style; Abstraction and new colourings.

  • The 90s: Influence and clash of Italian design in daily life.

ITALIAN FASHION

The course aims to give an overview on how to do fashion in Italy, by analyzing the major components that are making part of it. The main objective of this course is to study all the elements that determine the importance of Italian fashion and define it’s value.

Altough the students are provided with a brief overview on the history of Italian fashion and the creation of the pret a portait, the themes of the course are more focused on the Italian fashion system from the 80’s to the present days. The great names of Italian fashion such as Armani, Versace, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana are explored in greater depth.

  • Short History of Italian Fashion;
  • Introduction to the professions of Fashion;
  • Milan, capital of Italian Fashion .

(Florence)

At our school center in Florence we offer Courses in Jewellery, Stone Setting, Chasing and Gemology combined with our language courses, lasting 3 months to one year.

Jewellery
This course is directed to the making of high quality objects. The course includes different ways of Goldsmithing. At the beginning students learn to make simple objects to get acquainted with the tools and various material, and how to handle the different gems and metals. Afterwards they learn how to give shapes to the metal plates and wires, and how to make modern objects with mobile elements and parts made with metal embossement techniques. The third part of more classical teaching will be using techniques like: Open-working (boring), Florentine Style and elements constructed with metal wires.
This course also includes Design lessons and also Wax-working lessons.

Jewellery Design course in  florence

Stone Setting
This course helps to experiment all the most used stone setting systems. Starting with metal plates the students are brought to learn how to use the tools and gems. Students are given semi-finished jewels given them by the best Goldsmiths in Florence. The quantity and variety of those objects helps to see and repeat the most commonly used types of stone setting, reaching in the end those types less used. Although this course is studied for students starting at zero, it is also suited for craftsmen and stone setters who want to borden their knowledge with the newest techniques.

The Chisel & Embossed Work Course provides the three most important stages, which will instruct the attendance at technical and practical abilities for jewel and silver chisel.

Jewellery Open Work course in Florence This course “Traforo Fiorentino” teaches the refinement of the jewellery which has made Florence famous all over the world: the “Florentine Style”.

Engraving
Course to obtain charming designs, simple and particular inscriptions from the precious metal, all with the guidance of real craftsmen who have been working in the sector for many years.

Wax Working
Jewellery courses in Florence In the Wax Casting course students learn to extract, from the soft wax, the most fantasy filled forms to curry out in precious metals. Participants will be modelling the different types of wax (hard, medium, soft, tube, slab, block), use of the saw, scalpels, files, emery-paper and spirit lamp, soldering techniques with electric pen, bezel making for stones and settings, polishing of the wax prototype and finishing of the piece and casting with metal fusion.

The Preparatory Semester is designed for high school graduates who need to improve their language skills and intend to enrol in one of NABA’s three-year Bachelor of Arts (BA) degrees or making a semester experience into the italian design. The semester gives students a basic introduction to our curricula in Painting and Visual Arts, Graphic Design and Art Direction, Design, Fashion Design, Media Design and Multimedia Arts.

For international students that desire to enter the Italian BA pathway, the Preparatory Semester will develop proficiency in Italian language so they can get the most out of studying at NABA and in Milan. Carefully calibrated modules facilitate a gradual acquisition of increasingly advanced language skills. The admission test will be offered during NABA July session.

Thanks to the collaboration with NABA (New Academy of Fine Arts and Design), we are able to offer our students the possibility of attending a semester inside a recognized University of Arts, choosing between one of the following areas:

  • Visual Arts (painting, drawing, photograpy...)
  • Fashion design
  • Graphic Design and Art Direction

Before starting the semester program, it is necessary that the students reach a good level of Italian language.
You can follow 4 or more weeks of intensive language classes and further on, during the semester you may improve your knowledge by following one of our extensive group lessons. The following are the language requirements that academy is requesting:

  • Oriental and Middle Eastern students: 480 lessons of standard language course;
  • Students from UK, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand: 400 lessons of standard language course;
  • Other European students: 320 lessons of standard language course;
  • Spanish, Portuguese and Southamerican students: 160 lessons of standard language course.

The Art and Design program has the duration of approximately 12 weeks consisting of 144 lessons. The courses are held in late afternoon and evening hours usually from 18:30 to 21:30. This time table allows students with insufficient knowledge of Italian to continue the Italian classes and to follow art and design courses at the same time.

Milan as the world capital of fashion. This is the stage where the most important and influent trends in the international Fashion industry are created. The course analyses the major developments of these trends to provide students with the necessary knowledge of
the “Made in Italy” production and its strong influence on the international fashion scene. .
The course presents the creators of the so called Italian Heritage, the High Street Fashion, the glamorous side of the shops windows as well as the world of professionals which rotates around the fashion scene, such as fashion journalism, the buyers and the fashion consumers.

Week 1:

  • Presentation of the course and project “Milan’s Fashion-Design High Street”
  • What are trends and how are they divided
  • Fashion in Milan and the High Street style
  • Who creates fashion, heritage creativity and new designers
  • Who are the fashion consumers
  • International fashion weeks in London, Paris, NY, Sao Paulo, Tokyo, Stockholm
  • Technical calendar and schedules of the fashion industry
  • Presentation of the project: describe Milan’s High Street Design. Photograph and describe the most meaningful moments, styles and looks which best define the Milanese High Street fashion. Describe the world of fashion in Milan through the pictures of its main protagonists.
  • The importance of fashion shows in Milan
  • The websites reporting information about the fashion shows

Week 2:

  • The role of the buyer
  • Difference between concept-store, mono-brand boutiques and malls
  • The importance of the shop window
  • Italian editorial groups and the role of the fashion journalist

Outdoor visits

  • The shops windows of the so called “Quadrilatero della Moda” in Milan. Visits to the most important mono-brand boutiques. The students will take pictures of the shop windows and identification of the most important styles.
  • Visit to show rooms: CLASS, Guitar Show room/Maximilian Linz, etc.
  • Fashion fairs, Fashion events, Fashion Shows
  • Visits to multi-brands boutiques: Biffi Milano, Corso Como 10, Antonia, la Rinascente mall.
  • Visits to food and design boutiques: Venchi cioccolato, Raw, Via Durini design stores.
  • Verification and final assessment of the projects
