ITALIAN ART AND FASHION COURSES
At our schools you can combine your language course with your own artistic work.
Together with artists and experts, we offer, on a regular basis, courses in drawing, water colour, fashion and design.
DRAWING COURSES
(Florence)
Starting dates: every 2 weeks
Duration: 2 or 4 weeks (prolongable)
Lessons: 2 afternoon meetings of approx. 3 lessons per week; 12 lessons in 2 weeks, 24 lessons in 4 weeks
Tuition: all 6 ability levels

This course, available to beginners and advanced students, has a duration of 2 or 4 weeks (prolongable) and is usually organized in the following way: Realistic representation of still life, importance of lines in an object’s character, discovery of chiaroscuro and perspective. The course will be held in two afternoon lessons of about 3 hours each per week. Lesson can be held in Italian, English and French
PAINTING COURSES

Duration: 2 or 4 weeks (prolongable)
Lessons: 2 afternoon meetings of approx. 3 lessons per week; 12 lessons in 2 weeks, 24 lessons in 4 weeks

The course is outlined for those students that have already a good drawing ability and would like to learn watercolour techniques.
The initial lessons include the basic techniques of painting and watercolour; students will work in monochrome and progress to working with a palette of warm and cold contrasting colours. Advanced students with a good knowledge of the techniques will be supervised by the teacher with whom students can discuss their work. The course will be held in two afternoon lessons of about 3 hours each per week. Lesson can be held in Italian, English and French.
ITALIAN DESIGN

Have you ever wondered why Italy is world-famous for its design? This course will enable you to study the history of Italian Design and learn about the influence of Italian design in daily life.
The course "History of Italian design from its origins to the present" has the following program:
The first decades of the 20th century:
- How and why the design had its beginnings in Italy;
- Furniture among artisans and industry;
- Futurism as freedom of expression.
The 30s and the 40s:
- Between rationalism and autonomy - from Terragni to Ferragamo;
- Changes in style of a nation living under a fascist regime.
The 50s:
- Italian design is born - awards and recognition.
The 60s:
- Plastic - the exuberance of forms and colours.
The 70s:
- Great recognition for aesthetics and technology.
The 80s:
- Post-modern - contemporary classical style;
- Abstraction and new colourings.
The 90s:
- Influence and clash of Italian design in daily life.

At our school center in Florence we offer Courses in Jewellery,
Stone Setting, Chasing and Gemology combined with our language
courses, lasting 3 months to one year.
Jewellery
This course is directed to the making of high quality objects. The course includes
different ways of Goldsmithing. At the beginning students learn to make simple
objects to get acquainted with the tools and various material, and how to handle
the different gems and metals. Afterwards they learn how to give shapes to the
metal plates and wires, and how to make modern objects with mobile elements
and parts made with metal embossement techniques. The third part of more
classical teaching will be using techniques like: Open-working (boring),
Florentine Style and elements constructed with metal wires.
This course also includes Design lessons and also Wax-working lessons.
Stone Setting
This course helps to experiment all the most used stone setting systems. Starting with metal plates the students are
brought to learn how to use the tools and gems. Students are given semi-finished jewels given them by the best
Goldsmiths in Florence. The quantity and variety of those objects helps to see and repeat the most commonly used types
of stone setting, reaching in the end those types less used. Although this course is studied for students starting at zero, it
is also suited for craftsmen and stone setters who want to borden their knowledge with the newest techniques.
Chasing
The Chisel & Embossed Work Course provides the three most important stages, which will instruct the attendance at
technical and practical abilities for jewel and silver chisel.
Jewellery Open Work
This course “Traforo Fiorentino” teaches the refinement of the jewellery which has made Florence famous all over the
world: the “Florentine Style”.
Engraving
Course to obtain charming designs, simple and particular inscriptions from the precious metal, all with the guidance of
real craftsmen who have been working in the sector for many years.
Wax Working
In the Wax Casting course students learn to extract, from the soft wax, the most fantasy filled forms to curry out in
precious metals. Participants will be modelling the different types of wax (hard, medium, soft, tube, slab, block), use of
the saw, scalpels, files, emery-paper and spirit lamp, soldering techniques with electric pen, bezel making for stones and
settings, polishing of the wax prototype and finishing of the piece and casting with metal fusion.
Gemology
The Gemology Course is the best opportunity to have an adequate road to be followed for dealers, shopkeepers and
artisans who have to do, for their profession, with the analysis and the recognition of the gems.
Jewellery Design
The Jewellery Design Course is oganized in order to hold account of the various levels of preparation of students. Much
importance will be given to upgrades of the imaginative and creative work of every participant in order to make him
understand the importance of the smallest intuition in the planning of the jewellery.

Thanks to the collaboration with NABA (New Academy of Fine Arts and Design), we are able to offer our students the possibility of attending a semester inside a recognized University of Arts, choosing between one of the following areas:
Before
starting these courses, students have to attend a language
course for a minimum duration of 4 weeks to reach the level
necessary to enter in the Art classes. The following language
requirements are for beginners:

It is the first course of this kind in Italy and it was conceived for those who wish to find themselves in close contact with the concept of “made in Italy”. In this course you will have the opportunity to study the elements that determine the importance of Italian fashion and its history. In the first two weeks you have 4 daily lessons of Professional Italian with fashion terminology plus one day of lessons taught by professional operators in the field of fashion. The week after the language course is dedicated the visitation of show rooms, runways and fashion fairs present in Milan in that particular period, such as: “Milano Moda Uomo”, “Milano Moda Donna”, “Moda Prima”.
