Cinema and words, images and dialogues are – in the Italian cinema – indissoluble. Since the post war period - with the Neorealism and Visconti, Fellini, Antonioni… - and until the modern Bertolucci, Salvatores and Tornatore, the movies of our country give a lot of codes and registers to improve the Italian language control.

Through the vision and the playful re-interpretation as well as the retracing of the performance of Italian cinematography we can recognize different styles from the standard language to the regional one, from slang to dialects: all of them keeping the prosodies, intonations, expressivities that make every language so particular and alive.

Subjects of the course:

  • Cinematic Acting: elements of history of Italian movie traditions and of its authors, with particular interest to the contemporary production.
  • History of Cinema: elements of history of the Italian cinema traditions and of its authors, with a particular focus on nowadays production.
  • Diction and phonetics: difference between written and oral language; the usual errors in the Italian phonetics; pronunciation exercises; dialogue, conversation, verbal re-elaboration.

In the morning, at Morgana Communication, students will attend a special italian course learning through the study of Italian theatre. In the afternoon Standard Italian lessons will be taught at the Leonardo da Vinci School.

From the classical Goldoni to the “Nobel prizes” Pirandello and Dario Fo, Italian theatre has been the match point between different expressive styles from the comedy to the tragedy, from the drama to the parody and cabaret. Italian theatre – built around the “word” – is the centre of our project: for a learning of a funny, involving and alive language.

Through its memorization – and re-interpretation, improvisation – of classical and modern authors, language has become “natural”, allowing the control of prosodic and over-segmental values (rhythms, intonations, loudness, gesticulation) wich are fundamental for Italian pronunciation and pragmatics.

Subjects of the course:

  • Theatrical Acting: improvisation and interpretation; acting genres; character psychology; verbal and extra verbal communication;
  • History of Show: elements of history of Italian theatrical translations and of its authors, with a particular interest to modern production;
  • Diction and phonetics: difference between written and oral language; the most usual errors in the Italian phonetics; pronunciation exercises; dialogue, conversation, verbal re-elaboration.

Discover the primitiveness in you and the roots of our “modern” culture. Folk music is able to put the audience in contact with the man and his history. It traces us back to the relationship that for many years man has established with the Earth and the nature, through the melody of the songs, the rhythm of the dances and the use of “poor” instruments as reed-pipes, tambourines, mandolins etc.
The first part of the course will be devoted in a introduction (theoretical and pratical) to folk dance and to the playing of instruments. The second part will focus on dancing and singing.
